Spotlight on the Inauguration

EastCoast Entertainment Provides World Class Entertainment for President Obama's Inaugural Celebrations

When the country needed unforgettable entertainment for a truly historic event, there was only one place to turn -- EastCoast Entertainment. Having entertained multiple presidents, congressional leaders, heads of state and dignitaries around the world, EastCoast Entertainment has been the clear choice for many of the nation's most prominent celebrations and was the overwhelming choice for many of Obama's inauguration parties.

The Right On Band, Party on the Moon and Liquid Pleasure were chosen by the Presidential Inaugural Committee to perform during official events for the 2009 Inaugural celebration.

The Right On Band was given the great honor of sharing the stage with Jon Bon Jovi, Jordin Sparks, and Josh Groban at the Commander-in-Chief's Ball, where attendees paid tribute to the country's active duty and reserve military. The event, held in the National Building Museum, was emceed by George Lopez and was broadcasted to American troops around the world on the Pentagon Channel. Right On performed popular fan favorites as well as a couple of patriotic tunes during which Motown legend Smokey Robinson sat in with the band. Click here to see the performance!

Party on the Moon debuted their original song, "Yes We Can," to an enthusiastic crowd at the Western Ball, held in the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. "It was one of the best days of my life," said Dennis Smith, producer of Party on the Moon. "I was taken by the hope, optimism and positive energy of the Obama campaign, and to be able to play for the President and all those people celebrating his presidency was unreal!" Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony also performed during the celebration. Other notable celebrities in attendance included: Stevie Wonder, Sting, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, and Reverend Jesse Jackson. Liquid Pleasure performed at not one but two inaugural celebrations in Washington, D.C. They performed during the Eastern Ball held in Union Station alongside James Taylor. Kenny Mann says, "The most special part for me was getting to catch up with James Taylor backstage. We grew up in the same city, and his sister and I went to school together. A guy named Vic Lipscomb was in James Taylor's first band, and produced my first record in 1980. We got to talk for about an hour about Harry's Grill, The Planetarium, The Rathskeller, and all kinds of places on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill. It was a great big Chapel Hill reunion."

The band also performed for the North Carolina Society of Washington, D.C. There were over 800 guests in attendance, including many dignitaries from NC as well as most of the state's congressmen and women.

Big Ray and the Kool Kats also had the honor of performing at two Inaugural Balls. Both events were held at The Corcoran Gallery, immediately adjacent to the White House lawn. The guests danced all night long, and as the picture shows, no matter how elegant or significant the event, there's always room for the YMCA!

EastCoast Entertainment worked with the People to People Ambassador Program to put on a celebration for the participants in their leadership development program. The program takes students in grades 5-12 from all over the world and helps them prepare for college and their future. The students were in Washington, D.C for the inauguration and attended a celebration inauguration night where they were entertained by Elegance, The Janitors, Night Vision, The Recliners, The Rhondels, Rosetta Stone, and Sweetbriar.

Another ECE exclusive act that performed for an inaugural celebration was The Midnight Movers. They entertained the Thurgood Marshall Society at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum.

Jack Shannon, EastCoast Entertainment agent and entertainment consultant, praised the flexibility and perseverance of all the bandleaders who participated in the events surrounding the inauguration. "Although I didn't experience the depth of the logistical challenges any single band faced, I am well aware of the scope and breadth." Jack booked three of the ten official Inaugural balls, and was on site for five days around the events, working with the Presidential Inaugural Committee. "We all found ways to overcome unprecedented challenges in a short period of time, and I'm proud that EastCoast Entertainment represents such a great roster."
