Ugli Stick

The Ugli Stick was formed in March 2000 by Eric Erdman, an experienced acoustic and electric guitar player with a large and loyal fan base along the Gulf Coast. Eric was looking for a live band to explore new musical ideas and help take his music to new audiences and larger venues. Enter Tim Stanton, a well-respected and well-traveled professional drummer. Like Eric, Tim was looking for the right combination of musicians with which to create something new and lasting. Eric's former Method To Madness band mate Brian Graves was the next to join the band as bass player. Drawing heavily on such influences as The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sublime, Rage Against The Machine and other funk-driven rock groups as well as hip-hop in general, The Ugli Stick set about forging a new sound that combined these elements with the strong songwriting sensibilities of Erdman and Graves. After continuing to build their fan base and break into new markets throughout 2001, the group decided it was time to infuse yet another element into their music. Dale Drinkard, an experienced A-list studio musician in Nashville, has added extra fire to The Ugli Stick sound. Adding this second guitar player to the mix has allowed Eric to better execute his role as a dynamic, charismatic front man. With the double-guitar attack on some songs and Eric unleashed out front on others, this band is on a mission to make sure everyone gets hit by The Ugli Stick.
