The Kind

Virginia's own tribute to the Grateful Dead. The Kind has been sweeping through college towns leaving their audiences craving more by blending their diverse influences into a huge melting pot of Grateful Dead covers. The four-piece band combines strong lead vocals and harmonies together with intertwining melodies and soulful rhythmic grooves to produce an exciting, danceable experience for both young and old Dead Heads. Possessing the extensive list of Dead covers allows the Kind to be right at home in a laid-back acoustic setting or high-energy electric experience. The Kind, a Blacksburg-based band, is familiar to anyone who has passed through the New River Valley in the last seventeen years. Formed in 1986, the Kind plays a variety of styles that ranges from classic rock, R&B, and jazz to bluegrass and country, but are most known as a Grateful Dead Tribute band. Through the many years, the Kind has performed with the likes of Jorma Kaukonen (Jefferson Airplane), Rick Danko (The Band), Merle Saunders (The Jerry Garcia Band), and The New Riders of the Purple Sage. The Kind brings their experience home by inspiring people to get up and dance.
