Carbon Leaf
Four years ago Carbon Leaf moved it's way out of the College's practice auditorium and into the Virginia college circuit; cutting their teeth on porch and basement parties, backyard barbeques, university shows and clubs up the East Coast. A whirlwind 39 hour recording session in a livingroom home studio yielded the band its first four-song demo. By giving away thousands of free demos to anyone who could catch, Carbon Leaf's grass-root following began to emerge, clearing the pathway for Meander, the band's 12-song debut CD, released in the Spring of 1996. Carbon Leaf hit the road more intensely; further developing their personable live shows and grafting musical styles that would become Carbon Leaf's distinctive 'sound'. Having moved over 2,300 copies of Meander in little over a year, Carbon Leaf began preparing for their next project, Shadows in the Banquet Hall, a rootsier turn for the band that blended a folk edge into the rock mix. The band also filmed a video for the song Flood and culled live and interview footage of the band to make a documentary of sorts. Still an independent band, Carbon Leaf has been busily promoting their latest projects in Virginia and beyond.
COVERS
Their choice of covers is superb and they do what a band is supposed to do with a cover song; they change it and make it their own." - Eric Walls, Faze 3 Magazine
